Congratulations to Breyden Horstman and Amelia Medearis, a graduate and senior at Johansen for being recognized by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for winning two regional student production awards in the promotional video category, for their Early Childhood Education and Be The Change videos respectively.
Breyden, having spent 3 years in the video arts program, talks about how the skills he learned in the class allows him to make an impact out of high-school, "Through high quality cameras and editing software, I'm able to tell stories that not a lot of people in Modesto know about. The Early Childhood Education program is a vital part of the school culture of Modesto City Schools, not only benefiting children to develop skills that will stick with them as they grow up, but it also benefits the parents by allowing them to see how MCS can not only help their children, but their family as well. It was an amazing opportunity for me to just highlight the program, as well as a testament to how impactful the video arts and multimedia class can be for students and the community of Modesto."
Amelia, proud of the impact her Be The Change video made on the district, expresses her excitement to continue making a change in her community through videos, "When I got involved in the Be The Change District Initiative, I didn't know how much of a huge impact this project would make on the district and our community. Being blessed with the opportunity to widely visually storytell and communicate that everyone should be the change in all schools, students, staff members, and the community, inspired me to continue being the change myself. I am honored and blessed to be honored on a national level and I look forward to continuing my video arts & multimedia career."
Nicolas Garcia, the advisor of the video arts and multimedia class at Johansen, spoke on the success of his students, "I am extremely proud of not only the progress of Breyden and Amelia, but also the process of their creativity in the class. In just 3 years, their skill, drive, and determination has carved a path of success for not only themselves, but future video arts students as well. Being recognized nationally for their hard work and efforts truly is a win for our community, our school district, and the nation. I am excited for them both and I hope they continue to make a difference in whatever career path they find in their futures"
